Holy laughter is a term used within charismatic Christianity that describes a religious behavior in which individuals spontaneously laugh during church meetings. Leaders who promote holy laughter claim that the laughter is a result of joy that is supernaturally being given to people in the meetings. They claim that the joy is often accompanied by miraculous healing and the cessation of depression.
Critics charge that the practice of laughing at church is the result of psychological manipulation or demonic possession.
